CONWAY, Ark. --
Drew Lessert's game-winning goal with just over five minutes left capped a wild second half that saw the LeTourneau women's soccer team erase a one-goal deficit to come away with a 4-3 victory at Hendrix on Tuesday night.
The win snapped a brief three-match losing skid for LeTourneau (6-4-3).
Lessert's goal capped a wild final 45 minutes that saw six goals between the teams. With the score tied at 3-3 with just over five minutes left, the YellowJackets earned a corner kick.
Jordan Williams put the ball into the box and
Brandy Moran one-touched a pass to Lessert, who stopped the ball and fired off a shot that found the back of the net to give the YellowJackets a 4-3 lead.
The goal was Lessert's first of the year. Moran and Williams were both credited with assists.
The goal was nearly disallowed as the assistant referee had a flag up to indicate an offside call. After conferring, the officials let the goal stand.
The defense stood up from there as Hendrix (10-5) would not get off a shot in the final minutes.
LeTourneau trailed 1-0 at the half, despite out-shooting Hendrix 10-4. The host Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead with a goal in the third minute from Mackenzie Sinclair.
The YellowJackets answered, however.
Tatum Fenton notched her first career goal as she scored from distance in the 54th minute, assisted by Williams, to even the match at 1-1.
In the 59th minute,
Katherine Golec scored her first goal as a YellowJacket as she collected a loose ball outside the box and worked around a defender before scoring to give LeTourneau a 2-1 edge.
Hendrix scored the next two goals as Sinclair recorded a hat trick. Sinclair scored in the 61st and 74th minutes to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.
In the 76th minute, LeTourneau struck again. Lessert was on the helping end of this one as her perfect cross into the box found the feet of
Heather Fellows who scored from short range to even the match again at 3-3. The goal was Fellows' first of the year.
The momentum from the game-tying goal gave the YellowJackets an advantage as the guests broke through again in the 85th minute on Lessert's go-ahead strike.
Abbey Gallant made three saves in her 90 minutes at the net for LeTourneau, while Elisabeth Caton Nelson made nine for Hendrix. LeTourneau outshot the Warriors 16-7 on the night as Lessert, Fenton, and
Chanel Kemball-Cook had three shots apiece.
