Big Runs Lift Volleyball Over Centenary in Four

SHREVEPORT, La. -- A pair of double-digit runs in two sets separated the LeTourneau volleyball team from Centenary as the YellowJackets rallied from a one-set deficit to take a 3-1 (19-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-13) victory on Tuesday night on the road.

The win was the third straight for LeTourneau (10-11), the longest win streak of the year for the YellowJackets.

After dropping the first set, LeTourneau used two runs of at least 10 straight points in the second and fourth sets to complete the comeback win. The YellowJackets scored 11 straight in the second set to surge ahead 18-6 and then scored 10 straight in the fourth to race to a 17-2 lead.

Nora Lockhart had a season-high 11 kills and hit .476 from her middle position to lead LeTourneau. Hannah Payan also had 11 kills to go with 11 digs and Kaci Monk added 10 kills and six aces. Reina Lawson collected her 11th double-double of the year with 29 assists and 11 digs, while Morgan Nix had 35 digs.

The YellowJackets hit .400 as a team in the second set with 13 kills to even the match at 1-1. In the 11-0 run that broke open a tight set, Lawson had four aces in the stretch and Lockhart had the final two points for LeTourneau with kills.

LeTourneau trailed 23-22 in the third set, but rallied to take the final three points. Three straight attack errors from Centenary gave the YellowJackets a 25-23 win and a 2-1 match lead.

The fourth set was all but over shortly after it started. The YellowJackets scored the first five points, capped by a Faith Keating kill, and then scored 10 straight later in the frame to go ahead 17-2. Kills from Amya Orn and Monk secured the victory.

Centenary (7-19) received 10 kills from Elizabeth Canady and 32 digs from Kiara Liedy.
