ABILENE, Texas-- The LeTourneau volleyball team swept McMurry winning 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-21) in Abilene Saturday afternoon.
McMurry (2-22, 1-13 ASC) started with four straight points before LeTourneau (11-12, 8-7 ASC) answered right back with a 4-0 run of their own to begin the first set.
The Warhawks held a lead for most of the first set before the YellowJackets went on a 10-4 run to take it 26-24. A pair of kills from Yari Ortiz and a kill from Allison Smith sealed it for LeTourneau.
The YellowJackets jumped to a 10-5 lead in the second set. The Warhawks fought back to make it close with a tie at 20-20.
A serving stretch from Morgan Nix marked a 4-0 run for the Jackets as Nix collected an Ace along with a Kill from Kaci Monk, Hannah Payan, and Smith.
LeTourneau finished it off 25-22 and carried a 2-0 advantage into the third set.
The final set continued in a back-and-forth fashion with McMurry holding the lead until Payan went on a serving streak to carry a 6-0 run for LeTourneau. Payan marked an ace paired with a kill from Reina Lawson and Ortiz to gain the 15-11 advantage.
The YellowJackets carried the lead to a set win (25-21) and a match win.
It was a team effort as LeTourneau had 11 kills from Ortiz, nine from Payan and Monk, and five kills from Nora Lockhart and Smith.
Nix led the team in digs with 29 and Lawson led the team in assists with 38 on the day.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will come home to face UT Dallas in the final regular season conference game. Match start is set for 6 p.m.
