Men's Basketball Starts Road Trip with a Win

PORTLAND, Ore.-- A late Jackson Mayes pull-up jumper gives the LeTourneau men's basketball the 68-66 win over Lewis and Clark on Saturday afternoon to kick off the trip to the Pacific Northwest.

LeTourneau (3-0) held a lead as large as nine points for just shy of 25 minutes of the game that saw 13 lead changes and 6 tied scores.

Lewis and Clark (1-2) scored 17 second-chance points and 22 of their points came off the bench.

Mayes marked a second straight game with 20 points or more as he tallied 22 points, four assists, and eight rebounds to lead the YellowJackets in scoring.

Caedmon Liebengood scored 15 points and five rebounds to pair with Walker Blaine's five boards and 13 points.

LeTourneau shot out of the halftime break to take a six-point advantage and did not surrender the lead until under six minutes when Kody Uyesugi made a long three-pointer to put the Pioneers ahead 55-53.

The Pioneers led 65-60 with two minutes left to play before a Mayes layup and a Blaine three-pointer brought the Jackets to a tie. Christian Adams then kept Griffin Datcher from scoring a layup with a foul, Datcher only put in one of the two shots awarded with just over 30 seconds to go.

Mayes received a handoff from Liebengood and drove to the block, pulled up, and knocked down what would be the game-winner with 14 seconds remaining.

The YellowJackets trailed the Pioneers early in the first half 14-12 with 14:07 on the clock before going on a 19-8 run taking a 29-22 Jacket lead.

The Pioneers would then make a 10-2 run of their own in the final five minutes of the first to take a 32-31 lead into the locker room.

LeTourneau went 28-of-59 (47.5%) from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8%) from beyond the arc.
