Men's Hoops Hangs on in Wild Win over McMurry

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The bounce went LeTourneau's way on Saturday afternoon.

McMurry's Tristan Holden had his putback attempt at the buzzer go in-and-out and the LeTourneau men's basketball team hung for a wild, 95-93, win over the visiting War Hawks on Saturday afternoon inside Solheim Arena.

Caedmon Liebengood and Deonte Jackson each had 19 points in the win, with Liebengood adding six rebounds and a monstrous dunk in the second half. Walker Blaine had 16 points and Alex Ferrell scored a season-high 16 points to go with six rebounds in the victory that snapped a three-game skid for the YellowJackets (4-3, 1-1 ASC).

LeTourneau led for just over half the game, but it came down to the wire to seal the victory.

The YellowJackets used a 7-0 run over a two-minute span late in the second half to take an 88-81 lead after a Jackson 3-pointer with 3:34 left in the game. McMurry rallied with six straight points, but a bucket from Blaine and two free throws from Jackson kept LeTourneau in the lead at 95-92 with 53 seconds left.

After both teams traded empty possessions, McMurry had one last chance with 12 seconds to go and trailing by two (95-93). Coco Rose drove the lane, but missed the layup and Holden grabbed the rebound and put up a quick jumper. The ball went halfway down and popped back out as time expired giving LeTourneau the win.

The YellowJackets shot 60 percent (21-of-35) in the second half and outscored the War Hawks 50-48 in the period. LeTourneau connected on 53.9 percent (41-of-76) for the game and scored a season-high 95 points. Christian Adams added nine points with five assists, two steals, two blocks, and four rebounds.

The game saw 13 ties and 14 lead changes. LeTourneau overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half to even the score at halftime, while the YellowJackets' seven-point lead late in the game was the largest of the contest for the hosts.

LeTourneau dished out a season-high-tying 19 assists, led by Adams' five while Teigan Edwards and Jackson each had four apiece. Edwards also had seven points along with Logan Brinkoeter.

McMurry (3-3, 0-2 ASC) received 27 points CJ LeBlanc and 19 from Rose. The War Hawks hit 13 3-pointers and shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the field.
