Men's Hoops Falls in ASC Tournament

MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 77-65 loss to No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist in the first round of the ASC Tournament on Tuesday night inside Ornelas Gym.

LeTourneau ends the year 12-14 overall. ETBU (21-5) advances to the ASC Tournament semifinals to face No. 2 seed UT Dallas on Friday.

Deonte Jackson had a game-high 35 points to go with four assists in the loss. Jackson scored 22 of those points in the second half and was 13-of-23 from the field. Warren Richardson added 13 points with five rebounds in his final game as a YellowJacket. Jordan Pride chipped in four points with three rebounds and two steals.

LeTourneau trailed by nine twice in the second half, but trimmed the deficit to 62-59 with 6:04 left after a Jackson jumper. However, ETBU responded with six straight points and LeTourneau would not get any closer down the stretch as the host Tigers secured the win.

Jackson scored 13 of his points in the opening half. LeTourneau went scoreless through the first four minutes before a Richardson bucket with 15:59 left in the period. Richardson also had 10 points in the first half as he and Jackson combined to go 9-of-14 from the field.

LeTourneau used an 8-0 over a three-minute stretch to take its first lead of the night after a John Argue offensive rebound and putback. ETBU answered with a 7-0 run of its own and took a 37-31 lead into halftime after a Darry Moore dunk in the final seconds.

Argue grabbed 12 rebounds and added seven points. LeTourneau shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field and 13-of-16 from the line.

ETBU got 28 points from Moore and nine points with 10 assists from Aaron Gregg. The Tigers shot over 50 percent in both halves and finished 57.4 percent (31-of-54) for the game.
