LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team drops the late Saturday doubleheader to Schreiner.
Schreiner (11-4) took the high-scoring first 7-inning game 11-7 and followed it up with an even higher-scoring 9-inning one as LeTourneau (7-10) lost 18-11.
GAME ONE -- Schreiner 11, LeTourneau 7.
Schreiner got off to a quick start as they marked two runs in the first inning when Tyler Juarez doubled to left field.Â
LeTourneau struck right back as
Andrew Klingenstein doubled to center field for a pair of RBIs to be added to his name.
Cameron Pfafman would later make his way in on an error to put the Jackets ahead 3-2 before heading to the second inning.
The Mountaineers worked to extend their lead as five runs were scored off of four hits in the top of the second.
Lane Williams looked to create a spark with a homer to left-center off of a 1-2 pitch in the bottom of the second. That homerun was Williams' second of the season
Dane Jones would find his sixth and seventh home runs of the season as he went yard in the bottom of the fifth and seventh inning.
Dylan Cortes did not want to miss out on the home run fun as he hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to left field.
Luke Rodgers (3-1) got the win for the Mountaineers on the mound. He saw 4.0 innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, and tabbed three strikeouts.
Dalton Pickett (0-2) marked a loss with 1.1 innings to his name, allowing six hits, four earned runs and marked a strikeout.
Will Podsednik closed the game out for the YellowJackets as he pitched 3.0 innings allowing just one hit and marking a strikeout.
GAME TWO -- Schreiner 18, LeTourneau 11.
Schreiner got on the board quickly as the scored one in the first inning and ran five more runs up in the second.
The YellowJackets started to fill in their side of the board in the bottom of the second as
Devin Greaff marked an RBI as Pfafman scored. The score was 6-2 after two innings with the visitors ahead.
The Mountaineers scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. The Jackets did answer but not to the same magnitude as they scored four runs to begin to chip away at the lead in front of them. Williams,
Carter Amarantos, and Klingenstein all marked RBIs in the inning.
The YellowJackets kept chipping away at the monstrous lead with a Kyle Masonave RBI and a couple more runs scored in the sixth inning to make the deficit only single digits.Â
LeTourneau tacked on a couple more in the seventh as Jones tripled to right field for an RBI, Klingenstein then brought him home in the next at-bat.
Logan Sifuentes (1-0) marked the win for the Mountaineers with his 1.1 innings of work.
Riley Davis got the loss for the Jackets with 2.2 innings, allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, and marked four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will finish up the series against Schreiner on Sunday as the Friday night game was not able to be played due to poor field conditions. The first pitch is set for 1 PM.
