Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader with Concordia

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team splits the Saturday doubleheader with Concordia.

LeTourneau (7-6, 3-3 ASC) took game one, 4-2, as head coach Stan Wells tabs his 100th win. Concordia (8-5, 3-3) did hold on late for game two.

GAME ONE -- LeTourneau 4, Concordia 2.

Concordia hopped to a quick 1-0 lead before the YellowJackets secured the lead and hold on for the 4-2 win.

The Tornadoes scored a run off just four batters in the top of the first.

The YellowJackets opened up their side of the scoring with an RBI single from Mickenzie Murry as her hit brought in Kylie Grisham in the bottom of the third.

LeTourneau kept the scoring trend rolling as Leighton Landreth hit one through the middle as Maddie Flannery rounded third and made it home.

Concordia did answer the next inning when Kylie Denaro found a way to steal home to tie the game two a piece.

The Jackets struck right back with a Kenna Hendry triple which brought Murry home after she stole second. Izzy Tresca singled up the middle for Hendry to come home giving the hosts a 4-2 lead.

LeTourneau would hold on after a slight scare in the top of the sixth inning when the Tornadoes put runners on 2nd and 3rd, but the defense found their way out with a couple of ground outs.

Murphy Williams (3-1) was in the circle for the YellowJackets as she threw a complete game. Williams allowed just seven hits, and two runs that were earned, along with three strikeouts to her name.

The loss will go to Delaney Loosemore who pitched 4.2 innings allowing seven hits, and four runs, three of them earned and marked a pair of strikeouts.

GAME TWO -- Concordia 7, LeTourneaeu 6.

The YellowJackets started hot in game two before the Tornadoes fought their way back to take and hold onto a lead, as LeTourneau fell 7-6 in game two.

Laney Taylor cracked open the scoring in the first inning with a two-RBI single bringing in Hendry and Murry.

Lexi Hutchins needed just six pitches to send it to the bottom of the third as three batters grounded out to the infield.

Hendry added to her scoring ways as she doubled to left center for a couple of RBIs to be added to her name. Ashlyn Wood marked an RBI with her single up the middle to extend the lead 5-0 with the hosts ahead in the bottom of three.

Concordia worked to fill in their side of the scoreboard as Grace Coleman opened it up with an RBI single. Kaelyn Cash followed that by putting one into right field for an RBI and a runner to score on an error.

Concordia eventually took the lead when Denaro put one off of Murry's glove toward the shortstop, Grisham which opened the door for a pair of runs to be scored.

The YellowJackets did look to rally in the bottom of the seventh as Hendry found herself on base by an error, Taylor singled up the middle, and Landreth was walked loading the bases for the YellowJackets who were down 7-5. Alexa Neilon took the box with two outs on the board and singled up the middle to score an RBI. Unfortunately, this was not enough as the Jackets flew out to lose 7-6 in the second game of the day.

Krista Burg (3-0) got the win for the Tornadoes with 4.2 innings, six hits, and one run.

Hailee Leger (3-2) got her second loss of the series after game one on Friday. Leger pitched 3.0 innings, allowed five hits, and four runs, one of them earned, and marked a strikeout.
