Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Sul Ross

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's baseball drops a double-header at home to Sul Ross on Saturday.

LeTourneau (7-7, 2-4 ASC) could not get a whole lot going against the visiting Lobos. Originally it was going to be just one game on Saturday but with poor field conditions on Friday they moved the double-header to Saturday.

GAME ONE - Sul Ross 4, LeTourneau 3

After going scoreless through two innings, the YellowJackets opened up the scoring taking advantage of a throwing error, and scored two runs.

The Lobos answered back with an RBI from Casen Thor as he doubled in the top of the fourth. Tye Lindsey tied up the game with an RBI allowing Thor to score.

Carter Amarantos singled up the middle to put the YellowJackets back on top in the bottom of the sixth, with just one inning left to play.

LeTourneau could not hold on as the Lobos marked four hits in the top of the seventh and scored two runs. In the bottom of seven the YellowJackets did not give up the fight as they loaded up the bases. Ian Craigie came in to close for the Lobos needing two outs to end the game with the bases loaded and Dane Jones at the plate. Dane Jones found himself ahead in the count (2-0) before he fouled one back for the catcher, who made a great catch at the net to secure the second out. Pfafman then struck out to end the game.

Dalton Pickett started on the mound for the YellowJackets. He saw 6.0 innings, allowed six hits and two earned runs. He marked two strikeouts and allowed a walk.

Will Bond (1-1) got the Loss for the YellowJackets as he let up the lead in the top of the seventh allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Gage Cobb started for the visitors as he saw 5.2 innings. Cobb allowed two hits and an earned run while marking eight strikeouts.

Connor Archer (1-1) gets the win while alllowing two walks. Craigie gets the save with a strikeout and a walk allowed.

GAME TWO - Sul Ross 8, LeTourneau 3

Kyle Masonavee cracked open the scoring in game two with a sacrafice fly to right field allowing Andrew Klingenstein to score the unearned run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Lobos came around in the fourth inning as Thor, Lindsey, and Peyten Kenna marked RBIs to take the lead from the YellowJackets 3-1 through three and a half innings.

Pfafman answered back with an RBI single allowing Amarantos to score. Pfafman also later marked an RBI in the sixth inning to tie the game up as Amarantos scored again.

In the Top of the seventh the Lobos took a demanding lead with a bunt and scoring off of an error. That was followed by a walk that allowed a run to score, and a Kenna sacrafice RBI. Estevan Orti ended the scoring with a sacrafice bunt marking a pair of RBIs extending the Lobo lead 8-3 over the hosts.
