Thompson has Career Day While Baseball Splits Doubleheader

BELTON, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team finished off the series with a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor after dropping game one of the doubleheader on Saturday.

LeTourneau (14-14, 8-7 ASC) dropped the first one 4-1. Cole Thompson went on to tally a career-high four hits in game two to lead the YellowJackets to a 4-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor (6-14, 4-11 ASC) to claim the series victory. It is the fourth series win of the year in conference play for LeTourneau.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 4, UMHB 2

UMHB started game two riding the momentum and found their way to score first in the bottom of the first with an RBI double from  Rhett Grosz. 

After allowing an early 1-0 lead the YellowJackets started to fill in their side of the scoreboard when Dane Jones doubled to plate Devin Greaff in top of the third.

The Jackets added on in the fifth inning when Cameron Pfafman brought in a couple more with his two RBI single that brought in Cole Thompson and Dane Jones.

The Cru did not go away as they found another run by the hands of Grosz when he brough one more in for the hosts in the bottom of the fifth.

LeTourneau finished up their scoring in the top of the eighth when Thompson singled to bring Kyle Maysonave home to make it 4-2 after eight.

Dalton Pickett started the game on the mound for the YellowJackets. He stayed out for 4.1 innings allowing just two runs on three hits.

Zac Schneider came in to relieve Pickett. Schneider marked a pair of strikeouts while allowing two hits. 

Will Bond (2) got the save for his two innings of work, letting three hits and marking a strikeout for the day. 

Rahul Champaneri (0-2) got the loss for his 4.2 innings on the mound. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while marking five strikeouts.

GAME ONE: UMHB 4, LeTourneau 1 

UMHB struck first with a three-run homer in the first inning and took Saturday's opener, 4-1. 
 
The host Cru got on the board in the bottom of the first when Grosz hit a three-run homer to make it 3-0. 
 
After UMHB went up 4-0, LeTourneau got on the board in the fifth inning. Andrew Klingenstein walked and stole second before coming home on Lane Williams' RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-1. The YellowJackets put runners on first and second with two outs later in the inning, but could not slice into the margin. 
 
Aman Patel (3-4) made the start and allowed just three hits and struck out four over five innings of work in the loss. Dylan Cortes tossed a scoreless inning in relief. 
 
Thompson, Pfafman, Williams, and Greaff all had a hit apiece. 
 
Andrew Acierni (3-2) went all seven innings allowing one run on four this with five strikeouts to collect the win.

LeTourneau will host Highway 80 rival East Texas Baptist on Thursday, first pitch is set for 7 PM.
