Baseball Rallies in Finale to Complete Series Sweep at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team earned its first ASC series sweep of the season in dramatic fashion as the YellowJackets rallied from a six-run deficit over the final three innings to take the finale, 14-13, at McMurry on Saturday afternoon. LeTourneau opened the day with a 10-3 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

The wins puts LeTourneau back at .500 on the year (17-17) and 11-10 in ASC play.

LeTourneau hit five home runs between the two games on Saturday and scored 38 runs in the three-game series.

GAME ONE: LeTourneau 10, McMurry 3

Dane Jones hit two home runs and Cameron Pfafman hit his first homer of the year as LeTourneau pulled away from McMurry for a 10-3 victory in Saturday's opener.

Jones produced his third two-homer game of the year, and his third homer of the series. The junior finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and was one of five YellowJackets to collect multi-hit games.

LeTourneau scored in all but one inning of the seven-inning game. Jones got the scoring started with a solo homer in the first and Ethan Wood drew a bases-loaded walk later in the frame to put the YellowJackets up 2-0.

Pfafman then launched his first homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0.

Jones added his second homer of the game in the fourth as his two-run blast gave LeTourneau a 6-2 lead. Cole Thompson tacked on an RBI single in the sixth before Andrew Klingenstein drove in two with his double in the seventh for the final tally.

Aman Patel (4-5) struck out eight over six innings to earn the win on the mound.

Jones, Pfafman, Thompson, Wood, and Devin Greaff all had two hits. Both of Greaff's hits went for doubles. Pfafman had three runs, while Jones and Greaff both scored twice.

Bryson Morrill (1-2) got the loss after allowing three earned runs in 1.2 innings.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 14, McMurry 13

Down to its final strike in the ninth inning and trailing by a run, LeTourneau scored two runs on Andrew Klingenstein's two-run double that gave the YellowJackets a 14-13 lead and Will Bond finished off the ninth to preserve the win and the series sweep.

To get to that point, LeTourneau had to erase a 13-7 deficit it faced entering the seventh inning.

Cole Thompson had an RBI single in the seventh to get the YellowJackets within 13-8. In the eighth, LeTourneau scored three more runs as Carter Amarantos had an RBI double before he scored on a McMurry error later in the inning.

Down 13-11 in the ninth, Hayden Norris led off with a single before Devin Greaff worked a walk. Dane Jones just beat out a potential game-ending double play and keep the inning alive for Cameron Pfafman who singled to center to drive in Greaff and get the YellowJackets within 13-12.

One batter later, Klingenstein was down to his final strike but laced a ball to right field that scored both Pfafman and Jones to give LeTourneau a 14-13 lead.

Bond (3-2) threw the final five innings out of the bullpen to collect the win.

Amarantos had three hits, including a home run, while going 3-for-6 with five RBIs. Pfafman and Klingenstein also had three hits apiece. Thompson also homered and finished with three RBIs.
