Softball Completes Sweep of No. 23 Hardin-Simmons

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team kept rolling on Saturday as the YellowJackets completed a three-game sweep of No. 23 Hardin-Simmons with a 7-0 victory on For The Heroes Day at the Joyce Family Athelic Village.

LeTourneau (22-12, 12-9 ASC) extended its winning streak to six with the win. It is the second six-game win streak for the YellowJackets this season and the third stretch of at least five consecutive wins.

Before the game, LeTourneau held its annual For The Heroes Day ceremony to honor those who have died while serving our country in the military.

When the game started, LeTourneau jumped out early and never looked back to complete the sweep.

Callie Poore drove in a run in the second inning and the YellowJackets added two more in the third as Kenna Hendry delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0. Kylie Grisham had an RBI single in the fourth before Mickenzie Murry broke open the game with her two-run single one batter late as LeTourneau grabbed a 6-0 lead.

Speed took over in the fifth as Maddie Flanery pinch-ran for Lexi Hutchins and stole second and third before scoring on a throwing error to make it 7-0.

Murphy Williams (12-4) was the beneficiary of all the run support as she notched her 12th wins and 12th complete-game. Williams allowed just four hits and struck out four to collect the win, while going 1-for-3 with a run scored at the plate.

Grisham and Murry each had two hits as the top of the order duo went a combined 4-for-8 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Hendry and Hutchins also had a hit apiece, while Hunter Handley drew two walks.

Haven Williams (8-6) picked up the loss for Hardin-Simmons (23-10, 12-8 ASC). Four different Cowgirls recorded a hit as Murphy Williams limited the potent Hardin-Simmons offense to just four hits.
