RICHARDSON, Texas -- UT Dallas' Megan Todd hit a walk-off RBI double in the seventh inning as the host Comets rallied past the LeTourneau softball team, 3-2, in the opener of the ASC series on Friday afternoon in Richardson.
The teams will complete the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
LeTourneau (22-13, 12-10 ASC) saw its six-game win streak snapped with the loss.
The visiting YellowJackets led 2-0 into the fifth inning. LeTourneau took advantage of
Murphy Williams' leadoff walk in the second inning and pinch-runner
Maddie Flanery swiped second and third before scoring on
Izzy Tresca's sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. In the fifth, singles by
Kylie Grisham and
Kenna Hendry led the way for Williams to produce her own sacrifice fly that plated Grisham for a 2-0 lead.
UT Dallas (21-14, 12-10 ASC) evened the score with two in its half of the fifth. A LeTourneau error kept the inning alive and Todd tied the game with her two-run double.
With the game still tied in the seventh, UT Dallas put the first two batters on before Williams retired the next two. Todd delivered once again, however, as her double to right field scored the game-winning run.
Williams (12-5) went 6.2 innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts in the loss. Grisham, Hendry, and Williams had all three hits for the YellowJackets.
Emilie Hoelscher (12-7) picked up the win as she went all seven innings allowing one earned run and striking out 11. Todd finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
