LONGVIEW, Texas -- Riding a six-game winning streak, the LeTourneau softball team picked up a vote in the NFCA Top 25 and was regionally-ranked in the NCAA in the first poll of the season.
LeTourneau (22-12, 12-9 ASC) was one of three ASC teams listed in the NCAA region rankings, joining East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor. The NCAA region ranking was the first this season and is listed in alphabetical order.
The YellowJackets have won six straight games, culminating in a sweep of then-No. 23-ranked Hardin-Simmons last weekend. It is the second six-game win streak of the year for LeTourneau and the third stretch of at least five consecutive wins. LeTourneau clinched its fifth 20-win season in program history with the game one win over Hardin-Simmons last Friday.
Pitching has been the catalyst all year as the YellowJackets have a 2.28 team ERA, which ranks third in the ASC.
Hailee Leger leads the league in ERA at 1.32, while
Murphy Williams leads the league in innings (103.0) and is third in wins with 12. Williams and Leger have combined for three ASC Pitcher of the Week honors and Williams tossed a no-hitter against McMurry on April 15.
LeTourneau owns three wins over regionally-ranked opponents. The YellowJackets swept Illinois Wesleyan on March 13 and defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor on March 31.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
LeTourneau plays at UT Dallas this weekend, but that series has been altered due to weather. The teams will play one game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and then a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
