BELTON, Texas -- A walk-off single from
Callie Poore in the bottom of the seventh inning kept the No. 3 seeded LeTourneau softball team alive with a 6-5 win over No. 5 Hardin-Simmons in the ASC tournament on Friday.
LeTourneau (28-15) was playing its third game of the tournament after falling to ETBU on Thursday. The YellowJackets will now face the winner of the other elimination game between No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 6 UT Dallas.
The YellowJackets trailed 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth before
Murphy Williams was intentionally walked for the second time of the day.
Alexa Neilon then traded places with the baserunner leaving one on for
Lexi Hutchins who was able to reach on an error.
Hunter Handley was up with two outs and smoked one toward center field for a two-RBI double and found herself on third base advancing on the throw.
Kylie Grisham followed Handley with a hard-hit ball, lined in and through the glove of third base for an RBI single to tie the game at five a piece.
A quick three-out inning followed for the Jackets defensively and they found themselves one run away from advancing.
Kenna Hendry led off the bottom of seven with a double to center field and advanced to third on an error from left field.
Poore stepped up to the plate and put one down the right field line to plate Hendry and walk it off to the next round.
This was the third time LeTourneau had come back to beat Hardin-Simmons when trailing going into the sixth inning this year.
LeTourneau did carry a 1-0 lead from a Neilon RBI single before Hardin-Simmons scored three runs in the top of the third to make it 3-1. The YellowJackets responded making it 3-2 on a Williams RBI double to center field. The Cowgirls did extend their lead in the top of the fourth to make it 5-2 which prompted
Cece Pace to come in for the
Hailee Leger in the circle.
Pace (1-0) marked her first career win for her 3.2 innings of work. She allowed just two hits and struck out three batters.
Haven Williams (9-8) got the loss for the Cowgirls. She threw for 5.1 innings and allowed six hits, five runs, and two walks.
