MARSHALL, Texas -- Trailing 5-0 after the first inning, the No. 6 seeded LeTourneau baseball team stormed back as
Dane Jones hit two home runs and had seven RBIs in the YellowJackets' 17-9 win over Sul Ross State at Woods Field.
LeTourneau (20-22) stays alive in the ASC Tournament and will play another elimination game on Saturday at 2 p.m. LeTourneau could play any one of the four other teams remaining in the tournament.
Jones finished 4-for-5 with two home runs, including an inside-the-park grand slam, and seven RBIs with four runs scored. It was his fourth multi-homer game of the year and his seven RBIs matches the program record set by Josh Brown in 2009.
Things certainly didn't look promising at the start. Sul Ross (17-22) scored five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Lee Kubosh.Â
LeTourneau answered right back as
Lane Williams launched his fifth homer of the year -- a two-run shot -- in the second to get the YellowJackets within 5-2. In the third, LeTourneau scored five runs to grab a 7-5 lead. Jones hit a two-run homer and
Andrew Klingenstein followed with an RBI double before an
Ethan Wood groundout and a
Kyle Maysonave RBI single.
The YellowJackets led 9-6 entering the seventh after a Jones run-scoring double and
Cole Thompson RBI single in the fourth. LeTourneau loaded the bases with two outs and Jones delivered again as he blasted a ball to center field that got by Sul Ross and he circled the bases for an inside-the-park grand slam to stretch the lead to 13-6.
The homers were the 13th and 14th of the year for Jones.
The YellowJackets tacked on a run in the eighth on
Devin Greaff's sacrifice fly before scoring twice in the ninth thanks to a Sul Ross error.
Seven different YellowJackets had multi-hit games as LeTourneau racked up 17 hits.
Cameron Pfafman went 3-for-5 while Williams was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs.
Riley Davis (6-3) was gritty in his six innings and picked up the win. He settled down after a tough first inning and allowed just three runs over his final five innings of work.
Will Bond notched his third save of the year after throwing the final three innings and allowing one hit.
Gage Cobb (3-3) got the loss for Sul Ross. Tye Lindsey went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Lobos.
