Softball Finishes Sweep of Ozarks on Senior Day

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Kenna Hendry hit her first career home run and the LeTourneau softball team honored its five seniors on Senior Day with a 9-2 victory over Ozarks to complete the ASC series sweep on Saturday afternoon.

LeTourneau (26-14, 16-11 ASC) adds to its historical season with the win. It was the third ASC sweep of the season for the YellowJackets, who will enter the ASC Tournament next week as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed. The victory was also the 17th home win of the year, the most in program history.

Murphy Williams, Callie Poore, Lauren Wilking, Izzy Tresca, and Hunter Handley were all honored before the game for the contributions and dedication to the program during their careers. All five started the game.

LeTourneau jumped on Ozarks early as Kylie Grisham led off the first with a walk followed by a Mickenzie Murry bunt single. Hendry then hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot to left field, that gave the YellowJackets a 3-0 lead.

The homer was part of a 3-for-5 day for Hendry as she drove in five and scored twice. Williams made the start in the circle and went 5.1 innings to get the win. The right-hander eclipsed 100 strikeouts for the season as she notched three while allowing one earned run on two hits.

Cece Pace threw the final 1.2 innings and struck out three.

Grisham added to the lead in the second with a two-run single to make it 5-0. After Ozarks got within 5-2, LeTourneau answered with three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. Hendry had an RBI single in the fifth before Poore produced a two-run double to cap that inning.

In the sixth, it was Hendry again as she laced a single to left-center field that plated Handley to make it 9-2.

Wilking went 3-for-3 with three singles and a stolen base, while Handley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tresca and Poore each had two hits and Williams went 1-for-2 at the plate to extend her hitting streak to 12 games. Murry added two hits and stole three bases as LeTourneau totaled six steals in the win.

Karsyn Tencleve (0-3) got the loss for Ozarks.
