Kemball-Cook's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer Over Schreiner

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Chanel Kemball-Cook registered her first collegiate hat trick and the LeTourneau women's soccer team kept its winning ways alive with a 3-0 shutout of Schreiner in non-conference action at the Joyce Family Athletic Village on Friday afternoon.

The win was the fourth straight for LeTourneau (4-1-2), tying a program record for longest winning streak. It was also the fourth straight shutout and the fifth clean sheet of the season overall.

It is the first time since 2015 that LeTourneau has blanked four straight opponents. The YellowJackets have not surrendered a goal in the last 407:50 of game action.

Kemball-Cook scored twice in the first half and added another tally in the second half to complete the first hat trick for a LeTourneau player since Reagan Sandford in 2019. Kemball-Cook notched five goals on the week, after tallying two in a win at Dallas Christian on Tuesday, and has a team-high eight on the year.

The first goal came in the fourth minute. Kemball-Cook carried the ball into the right-side of the box and then found space to get her shot past Schreiner keeper Kassandra Gomez to put the YellowJackets ahead 1-0. In the 26th minute, the freshman collected a loose ball after an attempt from Jordan Williams was saved and played the ball into the empty net to give the hosts a 2-0 edge.

In the second half, Kemball-Cook tacked on one more. She received a through ball and took a shot that was saved by Gomez but deflected back to Kemball-Cook who again found open net in front of her and deposited her third score of the match.

LeTourneau held an 18-4 shot advantage, marking the sixth time in seven matches the YellowJackets have outshot the opposition. Kemball-Cook had six of those attempts and Williams added four.

Kelauna Cruz notched the shutout and made one save in her 90 minutes. Gomez totaled six saves in the loss.
