Volleyball Cruises Past McMurry in Sweep

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Faith Keating and Morgan Nix hit career milestones and the LeTourneau volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-16, 25-18) over McMurry in ASC action on Friday night inside Solheim Arena.

Keating eclipsed 1,000 career kills with her season-high 11 in the win, while Nix surpassed 1,000 career digs as she totaled 26 in the victory. Keating, who played four seasons at Grove City College, added three blocks and eight digs as she crossed over the kill milestone. Nix became the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs.

LeTourneau (3-8, 3-2 ASC) moved to 2-1 at home with the win.

Nora Lockhart had a season-high six blocks and added five kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Reina Lawson just missed a double-double with 27 and nine digs with two blocks. Allison Smith, Yari Ortiz, and Kaci Monk all had five kills each with Smith and Monk adding four blocks apiece.

LeTourneau never trailed in the match until the third set. The YellowJackets took the first three points of the opening set and led by six on multiple occasion later in the frame. McMurry (1-14, 0-5 ASC) cut the lead to one at 16-15, but a 6-2 run by the YellowJackets capped by an Ortiz kill extended the lead to 22-17. Another kill from Ortiz followed by a McMurry error gave the set to LeTourneau.

The YellowJackets took advantage of McMurry errors in the second set. LeTourneau tallied just eight kills in the frame, but led by as many as 12 to take a 2-0 match lead. One of Smith's five kills in the match was the set point in the game to give LeTourneau a 25-16 win.

McMurry grabbed its first lead with three straight points to open the third. LeTourneau answered with seven straight as Keating has two kills and Nix provided an ace during the stretch. The lead never dwindled below three the rest of the way and a Monk kill completed the sweep.

LeTourneau tallied 35 kills and hit .243 while holing McMurry to a .098 hitting percentage in the win. The YellowJackets held a 10-3 edge in total blocks and 58-53 in digs.

Jacee Dinkins had 15 kills to lead the War Hawks, while Ashley Quillan and Allison Montoya had 14 assists each.
