LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 1-0 loss to Dallas on Monday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
LeTourneau (0-1-1) was playing the first of 11 home matches this season.
A tight match throughout saw both teams with chances, but was Dallas that converted its opportunity. The visiting Crusaders scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute as Avery Seamon chipped the ball in the attacking zone and Claire Reed touched a pass to Sarata Bello into the box and she scored to put Dallas ahead 1-0.
The goal was Bello's first of the year.
LeTourneau had two good looks in the final 20 minutes of action. Off a corner kick,
Heather Fellows' header hit the bottom of the right post in the 74th minute. After the Dallas score,
Natalie Alvarado had a look in the 80th minute but her shot was just off target.
The YellowJackets' best chance all night came in the first half. In the 31st minute, LeTourneau worked the ball into the box and
Clarissa Martinez ripped a shot from the right-side but Dallas keeper Allison Zilafro made a diving save. Zilafro was not able to corral the ball and it deflected to
Zikora Oguanobi inside the six-yard box, but Oguanobi's attempt from short range was denied again by Zilafro.
Dallas (1-1) nearly took a lead in the first half, but Fellows made a diving stop at the line from Navaeh Coronado's shot in the 16th minute to keep the match scoreless.Â
Kelauna Cruz made two saves in her 90 minutes at the net for LeTourneau. Zilafro and Ella Charles combined for three saves for Dallas as they split time at goal. Martinez and Oguanobi had two shots apiece for LeTourneau, while Dallas held a 14-10 edge in total attempts.
