ABILENE, Texas --
Deonte Jackson scored a career-high 39 points and the LeTourneau men's basketball team surged past McMurry in overtime, 110-106, to collect a key ASC road win on Thursday night inside Kimbrell Arena.
LeTourneau (11-6, 6-3 ASC) had four players score in double-figures led by Jackson's 39-point effort in the win. Jackson went 15-of-18 at the free throw line, just one shy of his program-record 16 made free throws in 2021, and was 11-of-21 from the field overall. It was Jackson's second straight 30-point game and the 11th of his career (four this season).
The YellowJackets entered the night as one of the top free-throw shooting teams in the ASC and came in clutch at the line. LeTourneau went 37-of-46 from the stripe, the most free throws made in the NCAA-era of the program's history (since 1998-99). The 46 free throws attempted are the second-most in the same span after the YellowJackets had 48 attempts in 2004 at Schreiner.
Jackson was joined in double-figure scoring by
Caedmon Liebengood and
Christian Adams with 19 apiece. Adams led the way with nine rebounds, while Liebengood totaled six.
Walker Blaine added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Teigan Edwards contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while
Logan Brinkoeter had eight points and five boards.
In a game that saw 19 ties and 21 lead changes, it came down to the final minutes of regulation.
LeTourneau trailed 77-70 with eight minutes left, but used a 12-2 run to grab an 82-79 lead after a 3-pointer from Brinkoeter at the 4:35 mark.Â
The teams traded baskets down the stretch and McMurry led 95-94 with 13 seconds remaining. Jackson drove the ball on LeTourneau's next possession and was fouled. He went 1-of-2 at the line, but the YellowJackets secured an offensive rebound on the miss. LeTourneau had two chances in the final eight seconds, but could not get a shot to fall as time wound down.
LeTourneau scored the first four points of overtime, capped by a Jackson layup, to go ahead 99-95 with 4:14 left and did not trail again. McMurry would get within one point later, but the YellowJackets went 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the extra session to hold off the host War Hawks.
LeTourneau made above 50 percent from the field for the seventh time this season as the YellowJackets connected on 53.1 percent (34-of-64) with five 3-pointers. It is the sixth straight game LeTourneau has scored 80-plus points.
McMurry (8-8, 2-6 ASC) was led by 32 points and 14 rebounds from Elias Garcia. T.J. Hilliard and C.J. LeBlanc had 20 points each as the War Hawks connected on 45.2 percent (42-of-93) with nine 3-pointers.
