ABILENE, Texas --
Aleena Tuers' 12-save pinch-hit effort was not enough to outmaneuver Hardin-Simmons on Saturday evening as LeTourneau fell, 3-0, in ASC action.
Tuers, the freshman keeper from Modesto, Calif., had to step in between the pipes late in the first half for the YellowJackets, playing the final 55:45 of the match. She responded with 12 saves on 15 shots faced in just her third career game, a noteworthy achievement and important building block for the young freshman.Â
Kelauna Cruz started the match at net and made five saves in a scoreless 34 minutes.
After Tuers entered in the first half, she stopped her first two shots faced, but the Cowgirls were able to get on the board with a goal from Lexi Templin in the 42nd minute. The LeTourneau defense was able to hold that score intact the rest of the half, however.
Tuers made another two saves early in the second half, but Gabby Aviles snuck a shot into the net to make it 2-0 Cowgirls in the 57th minute. Another spirited defensive effort from the YellowJackets held off Hardin-Simmons' attack for the next little while, but the Cowgirls added a third goal in the 79th minute from Aras King to eventually seal it, 3-0.Â
Michelle Olivas recorded the lone shot on goal for LeTourneau's offensive attack, while four players logged 90 minutes played:
Camryn Robbins,
Clarissa Martinez,
Jaye Dugan, and
Sarah Wyatt.
