LONGVIEW, Texas -- Women's soccer fell short in a shootout with East Texas Baptist on Saturday, 4-2.
LeTourneau falls to 1-8-1 (0-3-0 ASC), while East Texas Baptist moves to 4-4-1 (2-1-0 ASC).
The YellowJackets were the first to open fire in this one, as
Sarah Wyatt and
Gabriella Sanchez each fired a shot, with Sanchez's requiring a save from ETBU keeper Cadence Tischler. LeTourneau detonated three more shots in the half, but all of them missed the goal as the half ended in a scoreless tie.
The Tigers ended up drawing first blood early in the second half, with Makayla Baxter being able to sneak one by
Aleena Tuers in the 48th minute. Three minutes later, ETBU got another goal when Giselle Laredo scored to make it 2-0 Tigers. ETBU added another goal in the 63rd minute when Jordyn Vitale fired a shot into the back of the net to increase the Tigers' lead to 3-0.Â
The YellowJackets formulated a response, however, getting two goals in a span of 1:03. The first was off the foot of Wyatt, following a brilliant pass from
Michelle Olivas. The second was an own goal by ETBU, as a deflection went off of Tischler's gloves and rolled into the net.Â
With the deficit now only a goal, LeTourneau continued to press the attacking zone, getting two more shots on goal from Sanchez and
Chanel Kemball-Cook, but Tischler was just able to save both of them. ETBU's Sarah Ramos then got the final word with a goal in the 84th minute to give the Tigers the eventual 4-2 win.
