LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's soccer fell to UMHB, despite a spirited effort, 1-0, on Senior Day at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
The YellowJackets complete the regular season with a record of 1-15-1 (0-8-0 ASC), while the Lady Crusaders complete theirs with a record of 12-3-2 (6-2-0 ASC).
Four seniors were recognized on Senior Day:
Gabriella Sanchez,
Katherine Golec,
Alex Sanchez, and
Claire Martinez. All four have been integral parts of the team during their tenures. They have great future career endeavors ahead of them, and we certainly wish them all the best as they pursue their next steps.
All the seniors played significant minutes early on, holding the UMHB attack at bay. Junior keeper
Abi King contributed as well, collecting all eight of her saves in the first half.
The Lady Crusaders' lone goal was scored in the 43rd minute when Jayme Dowell put a shot by King and the defense to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Golec got an opportunity on net early in the second half, but her shot was saved by UMHB keeper Emma Edwards.
The rest of the half passed by without either team able to garner any successful scoring opportunities, showing the YellowJackets' defensive effort and smarts throughout the half.
Sophia Merjil,
Clarissa Martinez, and
Camryn Robbins led this defensive charge that held the Lady Crusaders to no shots on goal in the second half.
