Jackson Reaches Milestone, Men's Hoops Storms Back for Win

BELTON, Texas -- Deonte Jackson reached another career milestone and led the LeTourneau men's basketball team to a comeback win over Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.), 72-68, on Monday afternoon inside the Mayborn Campus Center.

Jackson scored 19 points and eclipsed 2,000 career points in the process. The senior becomes the fourth player in program history to achieve the feat, and his 2,009 career points is currently tied for third all-time with Bonnie White '78.

LeTourneau (11-3) needed all of that offense to overcome a feisty Concordia-Moorhead (4-8) squad in the first all-time meeting between the programs.

The YellowJackets trailed the entire first half and saw the deficit get to 11 (49-38) early in the second half.

LeTourneau reversed the trend and went on a 16-0 scoring run over a two-and-a-half minute span to take the lead for the first time and for good. Connor Miller hit a 3-pointer to start the run, one of four triples he hit in the game, and a bucket from Caedmon Liebengood capped the stretch to give the YellowJackets a 54-49 lead with 11:18 left.

Branson Lynn drilled a 3-pointer at the 4:56 mark to give LeTourneau its biggest lead of the game at 65-55. Over nearly nine minutes of action, LeTourneau outscored Concordia-Moorhead 27-6.

Jackson scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half to aid in the comeback, including his 2,000th career point coming at the 16:15 mark of the half. The Cobbers would not go away quietly and got within three (67-64) with 1:22 left. On LeTourneau's ensuing possession, Walker Blaine nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to bring the lead back to six (70-64) with just over a minute left.

Blaine later hit two free throws with 7.1 seconds left to seal the win.

Liebengood finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Miller added 12 points on four 3-pointers. Jackson Mayes and Lynn each had eight points off the bench, while Teigan Edwards totaled seven points and a team-high six assists.

After shooting only 31.4 percent (11-of-35) from the field in the first half, LeTourneau connected on 50 percent (14-of-28) in the second half. The YellowJackets hit 13 3-pointers and went 9-of-12 from the free throw line.

Jacob Cook had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Cobbers. Jackson Loge led the way with 18 points. Concordia-Moorhead shot 54.3 percent (25-of-46) from the floor, but made only 10-of-17 from the foul line.
