Black's Clincher Keeps Men's Tennis Unbeaten

SEGUIN, Texas -- Timothy Black's match-clinching win at No. 6 singles lifted the LeTourneau men's tennis team secured a perfect weekend with a 5-4 win at Texas Lutheran on Saturday at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.

LeTourneau (2-0) remained unbeaten through the first weekend of the spring.

Black not only notched the match-clincher, but it was the freshman's first collegiate singles win. Black had to fight off a strong challenge from Texas Lutheran's JT Figueroa, but outlasted the Bulldogs' No. 6 player with a 7-5, 7-6(6) victory.

The win capped a back-and-forth match.

LeTourneau took two points in doubles play. Zach Farris and Chase Rogers were 8-4 winners over Cashton Herrera and Eric Moninger at the top flight, while Black and John Lewis earned an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Jackson Leslie and Xavier Cristan.

The YellowJackets went ahead 4-2 in the match with victories at flights one and two. Farris took down Logan Randall by a 6-2, 6-2 final at the top spot and Rogers was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 2 over Cristan.

Texas Lutheran (0-3) battled back to even the match at 4-4, but Black's clincher at No. 6 thwarted the rally as the YellowJackets picked up their second win in as many days.
