LONGVIEW, Texas -- Less than 48 hours after a tough loss at home, the LeTourneau men's basketball team showed perseverance and got back on the winning side with a 79-68 win over Ozarks on Senior Day inside Solheim Arena.
The win for LeTourneau (16-9, 10-6 ASC) clinched the No. 3 seed for the YellowJackets in next week's ASC Tournament. LeTourneau will face No. 6 seed Concordia Texas on Tuesday at home (7 p.m.).
Isaac Stolzenburg,
Walker Blaine, and
Christian Adams were recognized as part of the pre-game Senior Day ceremony. The trio then led the way for the YellowJackets.
Stolzenburg had a career-high 17 points and nailed three 3-pointers, while Blaine added 10 points, and Adams stuffed the stat-sheet once again with eight points, seven assists, and four rebounds.
Jackson Mayes added 15 points and three assists off the bench and
Caedmon Liebengood had 12 with five rebounds.
LeTourneau led for the majority of the game, but had to hold off a hard-charging Ozarks (9-16, 4-12 ASC). The YellowJacket led by 14 (29-15) in the first half after a
Teigan Edwards bucket with 5:11 to go in the period. Ozarks trimmed the margin to seven (34-27) at the half.
A Stolzenburg triple early in the second half extended the YellowJacket lead to double-digits again at 39-29. However, an 11-2 run by the visiting Eagles gave Ozarks its first lead of the game at 51-50 after a Jordan Jenkins bucket with just under 11 minutes left in the game.
Ozarks led by two later on, but another Stolzenburg 3-pointer gave the lead back to LeTourneau for good at 62-61 with 6:15 left in the contest. Adams delivered a bucket to extend the lead to three (68-65) with under three minutes left before a pair of technical fouls were called on Ozarks' Tim Eldridge that allowed Mayes to make two free throws to make it a five-point game.Â
The YellowJackets pulled away from there and ended the game on a 13-3 run to seal the win.
LeTourneau connected on 48.4 percent (31-of-64) from the field with 10 3-pointers.
Branson Lynn had seven points as the YellowJacket bench outscored Ozarks' reserves 25-8.
