Gaines' 30 Points Vaults Women's Hoops to Victory

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Ganae Gaines shined on Senior Day, scoring a career-high 30 points to lead the LeTourneau women's basketball team to a 66-58 win over Ozarks at home on Saturday afternoon.

LeTourneau honored Gaines as the lone senior of the YellowJacket squad. Gaines passed the 300 mark as she reached 315 career points.

The 30 points put up by Gaines is the most by a YellowJacket since March 6, 2021, when Keauna Whitfield put up 32.

Ozarks (9-16, 5-11 ASC) started the game strong and led 22-10.

LeTourneau (6-19, 3-13 ASC) saw the 12-point deficit at the quarter break and started to storm back in the second quarter.

Allie Buchanan made a jumper to kick off a nine-point scoring run. Gaines also put in a jumper from a Bailey Broughton assist.

Kylie Weeks then sunk a trey off a Makenzie Covey assist to bring the Ozarks lead to five, 26-21 with 3:05 left.

Sara Savage and Gaines both made jump shots in the final 35 seconds of the half to bring it to a one-possession game at 30-27 before the break.

After 20 minutes of basketball, LeTourneau had not missed a free throw going 10-of-10 from the stripe.

Into the third quarter, the Eagles stepped ahead again by nine, 41-32, with 4:42 to play in the period.

Broughton then rallied off four points with Gaines following behind with a fastbreak bucket to get it back to a one-possession game.

Some free throws from Gaines made the score 44-42 in favor of the visitors going into the last quarter of the season.

The YellowJackets found the first lead of the game with 6:11 remaining after Buchanan and Gaines made back-to-back buckets with a Savage steal sandwiched in there.

Gaines kicked off a 13-0 run as she continued to light up the scoreboard with a shot from three-point land.

Buchanan added to her total with another bucket in the paint. While Weeks a couple of plays later made her second triple of the day to give LeTourneau a seven-point (57-50) lead with 2:41 to play.

Gaines had a couple of layups and ended up shooting nine second-half free throws as the last one to put herself into the 30s.

LeTourneau went 25-for-29 from the free throw line and out-rebounded Ozarks 50-38 on the day.

Buchanan got her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
