Baseball Secures a Win in Split Saturday with Ozarks

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team controls game two as they split the afternoon Saturday series with Ozarks.

LeTourneau won the second game 13-10 riding the six runs scored in the first two innings.

The YellowJackets fell short in game one despite a late two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh that was snuffed out by Ozarks.

Xander Nabors tied the program record for hits with five in game two as he went 5-of-5 at the plate.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 13, Ozarks 10

LeTourneau got rolling in the first inning as Dane Jones kicked things off with a hit through the left side and he would score with a Nabors drop into right-center field.

Hayden Norris made his way across home plate after Nabors drew a throwing error by the Eagles' pitcher.

Then Carter Amarantos made the most of his walk as he stole second base and was plated on a Jaggar Vaughn double, giving the YellowJackets a 4-0 lead after one frame.

Ryan Brewer started on the bump for LeTourneau and found a groove early as he notched four strikeouts in the first two innings. He allowed one unearned run in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the second, the YellowJackets kept making contact and taking advantage scoring two runs with an RBI from Nabors to leave it at 6-1 after two.

Nabors scored another RBI when he doubled into left-center-field to bring Dane Jones home to make it 7-2 through four.

The Eagles started to battle back in the fifth inning when Langdon Town hit a grand slam to make it a one-run game (7-6).

The game went scoreless from that point until the bottom of the seventh when Tyler Hedin made contact allowing Vaughn to score.

Dane Jones, in the same frame, used his power to muscle the ball just over the centerfielder's glove and the fence for a 3-run homer.

LeTourneau was able to add some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth when Ben Jones hit one into center field bringing Amarantos home for an RBI.

Ethan Wood followed that with an RBI double to bring in Ben Jones.

Ozarks did score a run in the ninth inning as Isaac Price reached on an error bringing Ethan Cash home.

LeTourneau would hold on to win 13-10 after Cole Clark Struck out in the next at-bat.

Dane Jones and Nabors each tallied three RBIs. Dane Jones went 4-of-5 and Amarantos went 3-for-4 in the game.

Ryan Brewer (1-0) got the win with 5.0 innings of work allowing six runs but only one earned. He struck out six batters and allowed just four hits.

Cruz Cox came in for an inning and allowed no hits. TJ Spitdowski followed him as he worked up four Ks, allowing six hits and three runs in two innings on the mound.

Dylan Cortes closed the game for LeTourneau with two strikeouts, two hits, and one run.

The starter for Ozarks, Seth Goodrich (0-1), was credited with the loss. Goodrich went 3.2 innings allowing eight hits, seven runs, six earned, two walks, and a strikeout.

GAME ONE: Ozarks 3, LeTourneau 2

LeTourneau was on the verge of making a full comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning but came up just shy.

In the sixth inning, the YellowJackets trailed 2-0 before they were able to string together a couple of hits.

Hedin kicked things off with a single and Zach Zarko followed with another base hit.

Dane Jones was walked, loading the bases for LeTourneau, prompting a pitching change that led to a 643 double-play with one run scoring splitting the lead in half (2-1). Nabors then got plunked before a foul ball was caught, ending the sixth inning.

Brice Cagle hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead going into the last three outs of the seven-inning game for the YellowJackets.

Blake Vice hit a double on a 2-2 count to put himself in scoring position with one out down in the seventh.

Hedin then brought him home with an RBI single to center field. Zarko was then hit by the pitch as he represented the lead run with two outs.

Dane Jones then battled a full count before he dribbled one along the first base foul line that stayed fair. Jones sprinted down the line as Hedin was coming home, but was unable to beat out the throw sealing it for the Eagles.

Jake Estrada (1-1) secured the win for Ozarks with six strikeouts, allowing four hits, one earned run, and one walk.

Isaiah Lemke got the save with his 2.0 innings allowing an earned run with two hits.

Aman Patel (0-3) got the loss as he struck out four batters and let up six hits, two runs, one earned, and three walks.

Will Podsednik came in relief for 2.0 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, and notched two strikeouts.
