MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team hit six doubles on the way to a 7-3 win over Central Baptist at Taylor Field on Monday afternoon.
Jenna Carter accounted for three of those doubles tying the program record as, now assistant coach, Macey Mize hit three doubles against Centenary in 2018.
LeTourneau (1-4) started on the right foot as Maddie Flanery led off and drew a walk. She then stole second in the bottom of the first.
Kylie Grisham followed that as she got hit by the pitch setting up a double steal for Flanery and Grisham to put themselves in scoring position.Â
Alexa Neilon brought in the first run as she grounded out but marked an RBI.
Hailee Leger then hit a single between first and second base scoring Grisham to make it 2-0 after one frame.
Central Baptist (7-6) put a couple of marks on the scoreboard in the third inning.
It started with a pair of doubles for the Mustangs from Kori Truelove and Abi West. West traded places with Truelove for an RBI.
West advanced to third and eventually stole home in a double steal along with Kinley Johnson to make it 2-2 after the top of the third.
The YellowJackets wasted little time in response as Leger got things rolling with a single before Corinne Van Cleef came in to pinch-run for her.Â
Van Cleef stole her first collegiate base and was moved home on Laney Taylor's RBI double.
Leighton Landreth then came home after a failed back-pick attempt from the catcher to make it 4-2 after three.
Taylor then pitched a quick eight-pitch inning to bring the YellowJacket offense right back up to the plate.
Carter led the way with a double to right-center and then stole third base. Flanery brought her home with a hustle double of her own along the right foul line.
Grisham then pushed her to third, which led to a double steal to score Flannery to make it 6-2 through four innings.
It was another three-batter inning for Taylor as she tallied a pair of punchouts.
In the bottom of the fifth Carter hit her third double for an RBI as she brought home Lilly Longoria for the seventh LeTourneau run.
Central Baptist threatened a bit in the top of the seventh as the bases were loaded for Kirstin Ferguson who took the circle for LeTourneau.
Ferguson found a ground out, pop out, and a fly out to finish the game at 7-3 for the first win of the season.
Taylor (1-1) started in the circle for LeTourneau and got the win as she pitched 6.0 innings, tallying three strikeouts and allowing three earned runs, nine hits, and a walk.
Hannah Work (3-4) got the loss for Central Baptist with 4.0 innings of work. She allowed eight hits, six runs, five earned, and got two strikeouts.
