LONGVIEW, Texas -- A walk-off win in the second game capped a doubleheader sweep for the LeTourneau softball team over Sul Ross State on Friday evening at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
LeTourneau took the opener, 3-1, before rallying for a 4-3 win on
Leighton Landreth's walk-off single in the nightcap.
LeTourneau (3-4) has won three straight games.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 3, Sul Ross 1
Hailee Leger tossed a three-hit complete game as LeTourneau won Friday's first game by a 3-1 final.
Leger (1-2) was dominant in the circle as she allowed just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out eight and not walking a batter.
The YellowJackets scored twice in the first inning and never looked back.
Payton Bauer had an infield RBI single to put LeTourneau on the board before
Mickenzie Murry's RBI single to center field made it 2-0.
Murry produced her second RBI single of the game in the third inning. She finished 2-for-3, while Bauer and
Kylie Grisham also had two hits apiece.
Maddie Flanery went 1-for-4 with a steal and a run scored.
Lily Wiser had two of Sul Ross' three hits. Leanza Chambers (1-2) got the loss in the circle for the Lobos as she went six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 4, Sul Ross 3
Landreth's walk-off single capped a three-run rally for the YellowJackets in a 4-3 victory in game two.
LeTourneau trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, but scored a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game.Â
Lexi Hutchins put the YellowJackets on the board with her solo home run to left-center field in the fourth. The homer was her first of the season.
In the fifth, LeTourneau took advantage of two Lobo errors and Landreth worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in the tying run.
In the seventh tied at 3-3, Murry drew a one-out walk and stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Landreth then hit a hard grounder that glanced off the Sul Ross third base and into left field enabling Murry to score the winning run.
Kirstin Ferguson (1-0) got the win in relief as she went 3.1 innings allowing no runs and two hits with four strikeouts.
Laney Taylor made the start and struck out four without allowing an earned run in 3.2 innings.
Five different YellowJackets collected a hit in the win.
Loren Loveless (1-1) got the loss for the Lobos. Samantha Chavez had two hits in the loss.
UP NEXT
The two teams conclude the series on Saturday at 11 a.m.
