KERRVILLE, Texas --
Chase Rogers and
John Lewis both won twice and the LeTourneau men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-2 victory at Schreiner on Friday evening in Kerrville.
LeTourneau (1-0) won two of the three matches in doubles before taking five of six in singles play to finish off the season-opening win.
Rogers and
Zach Farris teamed at the top spot in doubles and pulled off an 8-7 win over Schreiner's Carson Kirk and Cole Reed. At the No. 3 spot,
Timothy Black and
John Lewis recorded an 8-6 victory over Jackson Pogue and Andrew Reyes to give the YellowJackets the advantage heading into singles.
LeTourneau won two three-set matches in singles to finish off the victory.
Alex Barrero battled back from a 6-1 first set loss and trailed 6-2 in the second set before rallying for a 7-6(6) win in the second frame. In the third-set tiebreak, Barrero earned a 10-5 victory to complete the comeback over Joanthan Barragan at No. 3.Â
Lewis also had a three-set match at the No. 5 spot. Taking on Reed, Lewis lost the first set, 6-4, before taking a 6-0 win in the second and a 10-5 victory in the third to earn the win.
Rogers notched a win at the No. 2 spot with his 6-2, 6-1 victory over Max Schechter.Â
At the No. 4 flight,
Liam Wedge took a 6-4, 7-5 win over Pogue before
Brayden Money collected a 6-4, 7-6 win over Andrew Reyes at the No. 6 position to finish off the YellowJacket victory.
