LONGVIEW, Texas -- In a back-and-forth match that came down to the final singles match, the LeTourneau men's tennis team came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Howard Payne in ASC action on Wednesday at the Davis Tennis Courts.
LeTourneau (3-8, 0-2 ASC) was at home for just the second time this season, and the first in over a month.
Two of the three doubles matches went into tiebreaks, but Howard Payne (2-10, 1-1 ASC) came out on top in both. LeTourneau picked up a point in doubles as
Zach Farris and
Chase Rogers held down the No. 1 spot with an 8-5 win over Nicolas Gates and Caleb Lambert.
Alex Barrero and
Liam Wedge battled back from a deficit to even their match at No. 2 doubles, but fell in a tiebreak to Sebastian Soria and Landon Ferree. At No. 3,
Timothy Black and
John Lewis went the distance with Michael Woodard and Riley Harker before falling 8-7(5).
Farris notched his second win of the match at No. 1 singles with a 7-6(4) 6-1 win over Gates. Rogers also earned his second win of the contest with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 win over Soria at the No. 2 spot.
Lewis gave LeTourneau its fourth point of the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Woodard at No. 5.
Howard Payne took the final two matches to earn the victory. With the match tied at 4-4, Wedge and Ferree went to a third set and Ferree prevailed 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
