GEORGETOWN, Texas --
Aman Patel tossed seven innings of one-hit ball in the series finale as the LeTourneau baseball team took the final game of the three-game set at Southwestern, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Southwestern took the first game of the day, 9-6, and took two-of-three from the YellowJackets.
LeTourneau is now 6-9 on the year.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 4, Southwestern 0
It was the
Aman Patel game for the YellowJackets as he threw seven shutout innings and LeTourneau pulled away in the late innings for a 4-0 victory in the series finale.
Patel (1-3) went seven innings and allowed just one hit and struck out four on 99 pitches. He did not surrender a hit until the seventh inning on a two-out single to left field.
LeTourneau got on the board in the first inning on
Blake Vice's sacrifice fly that plated
Zach Zarko.
The margin stayed the same until the seventh inning. Back-to-back singles from
Xander Nabors and
Hayden Norris put runners at the corners and Vice came through again with another sac fly to make it 2-0.
In the ninth, Norris and
Carter Amarantos had RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0.
Zac Schneider tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth as he picked up two strikeouts and
Dylan Cortes struck out two in the ninth to seal the win.
Amarantos had three of LeTourneau's nine hits in the win, while Zarko and Norris had two hits each. Zarko swiped three bases.
Tres Organ (0-1) got the loss for Southwestern as he went three innings and allowed one run on three hits.
GAME ONE: Southwestern 9, LeTourneau 6
LeTourneau battled back from a 4-0 deficit early, but the host Pirates scored three times in the sixth to break a 6-6 tie and take the 9-6 victory.
Norris went 2-for-4 for LeTourneau while six other YellowJackets recorded a hit apiece.
One of those six to get a hit was
Tyler Hedin as his two-run double in the second inning put the YellowJackets on the board and cut the deficit to 4-2.Â
Down 6-2 in the fifth, LeTourneau put three across as
Jonah McDaniel worked a bases-loaded walk before an
Ethan Wood two-run single got the YellowJackets within 6-5. LeTourneau knotted the score in the sixth on a passed ball that allowed Zarko to score.
Southwestern (7-6) had the answer, though, as the Pirates scored three times in the sixth to break the tie and take the win.
Riley Davis went 3.1 innings out of the bullpen allowing two earned runs.
TJ Spitdowski (1-1) went two innings and surrendered one earned run in the loss.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau returns home for a three-game series with Concordia Texas on Friday (4 p.m. doubleheader).
