LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team scored seven runs in game one to cement a 9-3 win over McMurry before losing game two 8-3 on Saturday.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 9, McMurry 3
LeTourneau (12-19, 6-12 ASC) scored the first run of the day with a Xander Nabors home run in the second inning.
Carter Amarantos kept the inning rolling with a bunt single. Ethan Wood followed that with a walk to move Amarantos into scoring position.
Amarantos took the opportunity to steal third base, which made it easier for Tyler Hedin to bring him home with an RBI single to make it 2-0 after two.
The YellowJackets put together a seven-run inning in the next frame that started with a Dane Jones walk.
Kevin Soto and Nabors each singled to load up the bases. Wood then brought in a pair with his single to shortstop to make it 4-0.
Hedin also notched an RBI single, before Zach Zarko walked to load the bases.
Hayden Norris knocked one out of the yard for a grand slam to take a 9-0 lead that would hold.
Dalton Pickett (4-3) started with the ball and got the win. Pickett pitched 4.0 innings, allowed four hits, and no runs.
Zac Schneider came in relief and pitched 2.0 innings, allowed one run, and got four strikeouts.
GAME TWO: McMurry 8, LeTourneau 3
McMurry (17-16, 9-9 ASC) came out in game two firing as the Warhawks scored two runs on two hits in the first inning.
In the third inning, McMurry tacked on a couple more, with three hits to make it 4-0.
LeTourneau did turn a double play to limit the damage as Hedin made the play at shortstop, and threw it over to Wood at second, who passed it to Norris at first to secure the first two outs of the frame.
The Warhawks stretched the lead to eight by the sixth inning.
The YellowJackets scored a run as Dane Jones hit an RBI single through the left side to bring in Norris to make it 8-1.
LeTourneau looked to rally in the bottom of the eighth as they had bases loaded with one out, but a double play lessened the odds of some late heroics. Soto did notch an RBI with his single through the right side to make it 8-3 which held to be the final.
Ryan Brewer (1-3) pitched 5.0 innings and got six strikeouts for LeTourneau
Hunter Poe (2-2) was credited with the win for McMurry for his 7.0 innings of work and had eight strikeouts to his name.
