LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team held UT Dallas to just one run as they got the sleep with an 8-0 and a 7-1 win at home on Thursday evening.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 8, UT Dallas 0
LeTourneau (17-17, 10-10 ASC) only needed six innings in game one as they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
Hailee Leger pitched her 400th career inning as she started in the circle and went all 6.0 innings allowing just three hits and got three strikeouts.
The YellowJackets opened up the scoring in the second inning after Leighton Landreth hit a double, Kylie Grisham brought her home with an RBI single to left field.
Grisham who was on second after the throw proceeded to steal third and score on a sacrifice fly from Maddi Smith to make it 2-0 after two.
A quick seven-pitch inning from Leger and the LeTourneau offense was back to the plate.
Mickenzie Murry kicked it off with a base hit. Jenna Carter followed suit with a two-out knock for an RBI to score Murry.
Carter then stole second, and third before Lexi Hutchins walked and stole second.
Landreth then came to the plate and hit a two-RBI single to score Hutchins and Carter and take a 5-0 lead after three.
Leger then went to work as she saw 10 batters in the next three innings.Â
Carter made an incredible play to end the top of the sixth as she caught a ball in foul territory on the first base side and threw out the runner trying to go to third.
The bottom of the sixth saw Landreth leadoff with a double to left, followed by a Grisham bunt single to put runners on the corners.
Smith grounded out for the first RBI of the frame.
Lilly Longoria then doubled to score Grisham and make it 7-0.
Maddie Flanery finished the game off with a double to right center to score Longoria and notch an RBI.
Leger was credited with the win in her complete game shutout.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 7, UT Dallas 1
LeTourneau picked up right where they left off in the first game as Flanery walked and stole second.
Jenna Carter cranked one out to left center for her first career home run. The blast came on a 2-0 count and scored the first two runs for the YellowJackets.
Landreth kept the inning rolling as she singled through the right side and then stole second.
Smith later doubled to left field to score two and make it 4-0 after one.
Flanery showed off her speed hitting a triple before she scored on Payton Bauer's RBI in the bottom of the second (5-0).
Carter later followed with another extra-base hit as she doubled to left center.
Smith recorded the second triple of the game for the YellowJackets in the bottom of the third inning as she hit one to right center. She was left on base after a flyout ended the inning.
UT Dallas got one back in the top of the fifth scoring one run on two hits to make it 5-1 going to the bottom of the fifth inning.
Carter hit her second double for the game to start the bottom half of the inning.
Landreth pushed her over to third on a groundout.
Ashlyn Wood then drew a walk to leave runners on the corners for Grisham.
Grisham notched an RBI as she reached on a fielder's choice and plated Carter to make it 6-1 after five.
The sixth inning saw LeTourneau score one more as Flanery got a hit and stole second before Landreth knocked an RBI double to cement a 7-1 lead.
Laney Taylor got the win as she pitched all 7.0 innings for LeTourneau. Taylor allowed one earned run, seven hits, and got four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will host the series finale with UT Dallas on Saturday with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
