LONGVIEW, Texas --
Maddie Flanery delivered a walk-off single in the seventh inning and the LeTourneau softball team celebrated its seniors with a 2-1 win over UT Dallas on Saturday.
The win for LeTourneau (18-17, 11-10 ASC) completed a three-game sweep of UT Dallas and clinched a berth into the ASC Tournament.
Before the game, LeTourneau honored its senior class.
Kenna Hendry,
Lexi Hutchins,
Mickenzie Murry, and
Hailee Leger were all honored for their hard work and dedication to the program during their careers. All four started in the game.
The contest was also the final home game for head coach
Stan Wells as he retires at the end of the season. Wells, in his eighth season, is the winningest head coach in program history with 139 victories.
LeTourneau trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, but answered the call.
Jenna Carter had a one-out infield single before stealing second. With two outs,
Maddi Smith singled to left field and Carter raced home to even the score at 1-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, the YellowJackets finished off the comeback win to complete the sweep. Leger led off the inning with an 11-pitch at-bat before being hit by a pitch. A walk to pinch-hitter
Payton Bauer and a bunt single from Murry loaded the bases with nobody out.
Flanery wasted no time in producing the walk-off win. The sophomore took the first pitch from UT Dallas pitcher McKenzie Cutbirth and lined it to center field to score pinch-runner
Corinne Van Cleef to win the game.
Flanery had two of LeTourneau's five hits in the game and stole two bases. Carter, Smith, and Murry each had one hit.
Hutchins pitched a gem in the circle as she went five innings and allowed one run on four hits with one strikeout. The senior retired 11 in a row at one point and produced 13 ground ball outs.
Leger (8-8) got the win as she came on in relief and tossed two scoreless innings.
Alexia Mullen went 2-for-3 for UT Dallas (15-19, 6-14 ASC). Erin Ledesma had one hit and scored the Comets' only run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
Cutbirth (10-6) picked up the loss as she went six-plus innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
