CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The LeTourneau softball team opened its final regular season series of the year with a pair of wins, 3-0 and 5-3 in eight innings, over Ozarks in ASC play on Friday afternoon in Clarksville.
LeTourneau (20-17, 13-10 ASC) has won five straight games and will aim for its third ASC series sweep of the year on Saturday.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 3, Ozarks 0
Hailee Leger was dominant again in the circle and the YellowJackets scored late to take game one, 3-0, on Friday.
Leger (9-8) went the distance for her ninth complete-game of the year and her fourth shutout. The right-hander scattered eight hits and struck out eight without allowing a walk. Leger threw just 69 pitches, marking her second straight complete-game without breaking the 70-pitch barrier.
The offense came alive in the late innings to give LeTourneau the win.
In a scoreless game entering the sixth,
Payton Bauer doubled to leadoff the frame before scoring on
Leighton Landreth's double to right-center field. Two batters later,
Kylie Grisham drove in Landreth with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
In the seventh,
Maddie Flanery walked with one out and then stole second and third before coming home on Bauer's RBI single.
Flanery stole four bases in the game, while drawing a pair of walks. Bauer and
Maddi Smith each had two hits in the win.
Morgan Haupt (2-9) picked up the loss for Ozarks as she went seven innings and surrendered three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 5, Ozarks 3 (8 innings)
LeTourneau saw a late lead disappear, but then scored two runs in the eighth inning to come away with a 5-3 victory and a doubleheader sweep.
The YellowJackets led 3-1 in the sixth inning after plating three runs in the frame. Landreth had a two-run single to give LeTourneau its first lead of the game at 2-1. Smith then added an RBI double to extend the margin to 3-1.
Ozarks (7-32, 2-21 ASC) scored twice in its half of the sixth to even the score.
In extras, LeTourneau wasted little time in getting the lead back. Grisham had a one-out infield single before Landreth reached on a fielder's choice that led to an error enabling Grisham to scamper home with the go-ahead run.
Smith tacked on an RBI single for good measure to make it 5-3.
Laney Taylor (7-4) retired the host Eagles in order in the eighth to earn the eight-inning complete-game victory. Taylor struck out five and allowed just three runs in her outing.
Grisham and Smith each had two hits, while Smith drove in two runs. Flanery, Landreth, and
Lexi Dodson had a hit apiece.
Mack Lucio (3-10) took the loss for Ozarks as she also went all eight innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits.Â
