Baseball Drops Two Games to No. 5 ETBU

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team just could not get the big hit it needed on Saturday in either contest as the YellowJackets fell twice to No. 5 East Texas Baptist.

ETBU took the opener, 2-1, before pulling away for an 11-2 victory in the series finale.

LeTourneau drops to 11-17 overall and 5-10 in ASC play. ETBU improves to 24-6 and 14-1 in league play.

GAME ONE: ETBU 2, LeTourneau 1

A pitcher's duel between LeTourneau's Ryan Brewer and ETBU's Syaers Collins went the Tigers' way in a 2-1 victory for the visitors on Saturday.

Brewer (1-2) took the loss but tossed his first career complete game as he went all seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts on 116 pitches.

Collins (7-1) was up to the task as well as he went the distance and struck out six while allowing one run on four hits.

ETBU got on the board in the second on a double steal to grab a 1-0 lead. The Tigers stretched it to 2-0 on Dylan Burnaman's RBI single in the fifth.

Hayden Norris launched a solo home run to leadoff the sixth inning to get the YellowJackets within 2-1.

Down a run in the seventh, Carter Amarantos walked to begin the inning and moved to second two batters later. The Tigers intentionally walked Blake Vice to put the winning run on base, but Collins was able to get out of the jam and preserve the win for ETBU.

Norris went 2-for-3 while Dane Jones and Jaggar Vaughn each had one hit.

GAME TWO: ETBU 11, LeTourneau 2

A five-run seventh inning pulled ETBU away from LeTourneau as the Tigers complete the three-game sweep with an 11-2 victory in the finale.

LeTourneau trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the second, but got on the board with Zach Zarko's RBI single. The YellowJackets had chances in the middle innings, but left 10 runners on base in the first six innings of the game.

ETBU broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning to extend the lead to 11-2. Burnaman had a two-run single and Brett Wagner drove in two to cap the frame.

Jones had two more hits for LeTourneau as he went 2-for-4. Kevin Soto, Xander Nabors, Vice, Tyler Hedin, and Zarko all had one hit each.

Aman Patel (1-6) got the loss after tossing 5.1 innings in his start. Zac Schneider and Dylan Cortes combined to throw two scoreless innings in relief.

Peyton Miller (4-1) picked up the win in relief as he went 2.2 innings and allowed one run. Wagner finished 3-for-6 with three RBIs for ETBU.
