MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team started with a couple of runs in the first inning, but East Texas Baptist took the game 8-2 on Thursday evening.
LeTourneau took an early lead after a two-run shot from Kylie Grisham as she took the 1-0 pitch and crushed it over the fence in left field. The home run marked the first one of the tournament.
East Texas Baptist responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run from Delanie Loya to cut the YellowJacket lead in half (2-1).
The Tigers tied the game in the third with one run on one hit and one error. East Texas Baptist then tacked on three more in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and an error. The Tigers led 5-2 after four frames.
Hailee Leger pitched four innings as she started in the circle for the YellowJackets. She allowed six hits, three earned runs, and got one strikeout.
Lexi Hutchins moved to pitch (from first base) in the bottom of the fifth inning where the Tigers scored three runs on three hits before lightning struck, and the game was delayed for thirty minutes.
After the delay, LeTourneau got to work with a couple of hits in the top of the sixth. The rally attempt was ultimately snuffed out snuffed out by the Tiger pitching.
Grisham finished the night with two hits and two RBIs to lead LeTourneau.

LeTourneau will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in an elimination game on Friday (12:30 p.m.).
