LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's soccer nearly pulled off a brilliant comeback after an early 2-0 deficit, but fell just short to visiting Hendrix on Thursday evening, 2-1, at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
LeTourneau falls to 0-5-1, while Hendrix improves to 3-1-3.
After goals by Hendrix's Alli Farrar (6') and Madison Lampkin (25') put the YellowJackets down early, LeTourneau went into the second half needing a spirited comeback.Â
The offense renewed their strength and came out firing on all cylinders, putting up five shots in the first 10 minutes of the half, with
Sophia Merjil,
Natalie Alvarado, and
Mariah Ammons forcing Warriors goalkeeper Kennedy Lewis to stop three of them.Â
Following two more shots by
Chanel Kemball-Cook and
Gabriella Sanchez,
Camryn Robbins capitalized on her lone opportunity of the night in the 68th minute, driving a spectacular shot through a congested cluster of players and into the right side of the net to pull the YellowJackets within one. The goal was the first of Robbins' collegiate career.Â
The Hendrix defense stepped up their game and were able to clear the ball away from attacking YellowJackets the rest of the way, however, only allowing a couple of difficult looks.
In total, there were 33 shots between the two teams, with each keeper making eight saves.
Kelauna Cruz continued her brilliant stretch of defensive wizardry, clearing the zone effectively and stopping multiple crosses and shots throughout the night.
