SHREVEPORT, La. -- Two goals by
Chanel Kemball-Cook (7') and
Michelle Olivas (43') lifted LeTourneau women's soccer to a 2-0 victory at Centenary on Saturday afternoon.
LeTourneau improves to 1-5-1, while Centenary falls to 0-4-1.
Kemball-Cook, the sophomore from Prosper, Texas, did not have to wait long to get the first chance for the YellowJackets, taking a
Gabriella Sanchez pass and punching the ball into the back of the net to give LeTourneau an early 1-0 lead. The goal was Kemball-Cook's second of the season and 13th of her career.
Centenary attempted to respond a few minutes later, but
Kelauna Cruz ceased the firing of Kailey Hancock to preserve the lead. Cruz would later save another shot in the 29th minute to keep the 1-0 score intact.
In the 42nd minute, LeTourneau sensed another opportunity looming.
Katherine Golec sent a shot on net, which was saved, but it sparked a rally in which
Camila Andrade fed
Michelle Olivas, who sent her first shot of the afternoon across the goal line and extended the lead to 2-0. The goal marked Olivas' first of the season and second of her career.
The defense just had to hold the rest of the way, and hold they did, allowing no shots to reach the net the rest of the match.
In all, LeTourneau put up 15 shots, with 9 being on goal. Cruz saved two Centenary shots to earn her first clean sheet of the season.
