LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau volleyball used a dominant second set to sweep Belhaven 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-23) at Solheim Arena on Tuesday evening.
LeTourneau improves to 7-8, while Belhaven falls to 3-7.
Kaci Monk led the way offensively with 11 kills on a .435 hitting percentage, while
Reina Lawson added 24 assists and two service aces.
Defensively,
Nora Lockhart blocked five attacks and
Morgan Nix collected 23 digs.
The first set was tight throughout, with both teams having multiple small runs back and forth against one another. The YellowJackets got the last word, however, as
Allison Smith's kill and a Blazers' set error gave LeTourneau the upper hand, 25-21.
After an early 2-2 tie in the second set,
Allison Smith came around to serve, and she gave the YellowJackets all the momentum they would need via eight consecutive points. LeTourneau cruised from there, getting back-to-back kills from Monk and
Yari Ortiz plus a Belhaven service error to go up two sets to none.
The Blazers did not go away quietly, however, responding to a couple of early YellowJackets runs to take a 22-21 lead late. LeTourneau had the answer, though, taking four of the next five points thanks to two kills from
Allison Smith, a kill from Monk, and a Blazers attack error to earn the sweep.
For Belhaven, Megan LaCour had eight kills and eight digs, Aniyah Tompkins racked up 13 assists, and Miriam Ateca notched three service aces.
