LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit at the half to even the match, but visiting Austin College came away with a 2-1 victory over the YellowJackets on Friday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, LeTourneau (0-3) knotted the score at 1-1 on a goal from
Chanel Kemball-Cook in the 63rd minute.
LeTourneau had been pressuring Austin College for much of the match and finally broke through midway through the second half.
Shelby Smith played a cross into the box and Kemball-Cook one-touched the ball into the net from close range.
The goal was Kemball-Cook's first of the year and the 12th of her career.
In the 72nd minute, Austin College (3-0-1) found the eventual game-winner. Shakira Williams received a through ball from Hannah Oberbeck and finished at the net to give the visiting Roos a 2-1 lead.
LeTourneau out-shot Austin College, 11-10, but could not put together another good look over the final 15 minutes.
Austin College took the lead in the first half on a score from Jetta Broquard in the 30th minute. LeTourneau keeper
Kelauna Cruz saved Broquard's initial shot, but the rebound went right back to Broquard who finished for the score.
Cruz ended the night with six saves. Kenedie Lane made one save for Austin College.
