MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- After a record-filled 2-0 day one of the Rhodes College Classic, LeTourneau volleyball could not keep it up as they dropped both games of day two, falling to Elmhurst (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) in game one and Millsaps in game two (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-8) on Saturday afternoon.Â
LeTourneau falls to 3-5 on the season, while Elmhurst improves to 2-4 and Millsaps moves to 6-1.
Hannah Payan led the YellowJackets in kills on the day with 14, whileÂ
Reina Lawson had a team-best 42 assists. Defensively,
Allison Smith had seven blocks and
Morgan Nix had 42 digs to pace the team in those categories.
The Elmhust match proved difficult for LeTourneau, as the BlueJays were in control throughout the match and took the win in three sets. Â
The YellowJackets regrouped and prepared to face Millsaps, and the adjustments they made proved to be successful. They found a gem off the bench in freshman
Ashlyn Walther, who played a season-high four of the five sets in the match and racked up five blocks to lead the team. Ultimately, it was not enough, however, as the Majors rebounded from a loss in the fourth set and took the fifth and deciding set 15-8.
Elmhurst was guided by Jada Wiley, who had nine kills and four service aces. Kellyn Kennedy contributed 17 assists. For Millsaps, Anna Capezzara had 18 kills while Zoe Elder added 36 assists, three blocks and 22 digs.
