CONWAY, Ark. --
Kinsey Fulks made a penalty kick save and the rest of the defense stepped up late in the second half to draw with Hendrix, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The draw moved the YellowJackets (8-6-2, 3-5-1 SCAC) one point behind the Warriors (5-7-4, 3-4-2 SCAC) for the final playoff spot in the SCAC tournament.
The match got off to a slow start for LeTourneau offensively, as they were held without a shot in the half. The defense did their job, though, as Fulks made four saves and
Lana Whiteman aided defensively with a team save. The half ended scoreless.
The second half was a far different story.
In the 55th minute,
Reagan Parks slipped a pass to
Chanel Kemball-Cook, who dribbled around two Warriors and placed a perfect shot into the left side of the net, giving the YellowJackets a 1-0 lead.
That lead would not last long, however, as Vivian Day countered with a goal of her own in the 60th minute to even things up.
Following that goal, Fulks and the defense went to work.
Hendrix got a prime chance to take the lead less than three minutes later, drawing a foul inside the box. Lauren Humiston would take the kick, but Fulks read it well, diving high to her right to redirect it wide.
Fulks would stop another Warriors chance 24 seconds later, forcing another shot wide. The defense held their ground the rest of the way, holding Hendrix to just one shot on goal, which Fulks stopped.
In total, Fulks made eight saves in the match, while five others played all 90 minutes:
Michelle Olivas,
Shelby Smith,
Sophia Merjil,
Clarissa Martinez, and
Lana Whiteman.
