King Leads No. 11 Men's Golf to Tie for First at Carla Spenkoch

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Corbin King placed third overall with a 54-hole score of 2-under to lead the No. 11-ranked LeTourneau men's golf team to a tie of first at the Carla Spenkoch Invitational, hosted by Trinity at the par-71 Quarry Golf Course.

LeTourneau led through the first two rounds on Monday and held on to tie for the top spot with Trinity. The YellowJackets posted an 853 (282-282-289) for the tournament. Trinity's Carter Code won the medalist honors with a 6-under, 207 (69-68-70).

King led the way with his 2-under, 211 (71-69-71) in the tournament. The junior opened the tournament with a round of 71 with four birdies on Monday and then carded a 2-under, 69 with four more birdies in round two. In Tuesday's final round, King shot even-par, 71 with three birdies to place in a tie for third overall.

His 11 birdies in the tournament was tied for seventh-most in the field.

LeTourneau had four players finish in the top-10 overall. Rafa Torres finished in a tie for seventh with an even-par, 213 (70-72-71) for the tournament. The freshman had a pair of eagles in his opening round on Monday and finished with three eagles -- leading the field -- and seven birdies for the event.

Owen Prewitt was ninth with a 1-over, 214 (71-71-72) and had 13 birdies in the tournament. Kaiden Schneider was 10th overall with a 2-over, 215 (70-70-75). Schneider posted five birdies in the first round and ended the tournament with nine.

Playing as an individual, Trey Cates was tied for 20th at 221 (70-69-82). Cates went 3-under between the first two rounds on Monday with 11 birdies on the day. He finished with 13 birdies for the tournament.

Noah Summers rounded out the team-counting golfers for the YellowJackets with a 228 (71-76-81) with four birdies in the first round and nine overall as he ended 29th.

Luke Nelson (234, 79-77-78) played as an individual and placed 35th in the field.
