Volleyball Season Ends in Hard Fought SCAC Quarterfinals

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The No. 6 seeded LeTourneau volleyball team fought valiantly, but ultimately was defeated by the No. 3 seeded Schreiner Mountaineers 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) inside Stephens Family Arena on Friday afternoon.

Aubree McCann finished her career with the most impressive match she's had in the blue and gold, dropping an absurd 21 kills and seven digs. McCann's 21 kills (.203) are the most by any YellowJacket this season.

Following in the kill department was Emma Smith with nine (.207), and Emily Mullin with seven (.261).

Mullin also put it all on the line in the match, tying her career-high of 29 assists to accompany 10 digs, marking her 11th double-double of her freshman campaign.

Both Nora Lockhart and Ashlyn Walther added three blocks at the net. The duo combined for nine kills as well.

Maddy Hirneise led the way with 21 digs, while Kaylyn Taylor finished her career matching a career-best 17 digs.

LeTourneau (19-12) started slow out the gate, as the Mountaineers opened the match up 12-6. In response, the YellowJackets answered with an 11-6 run to pull it within one.

Schreiner (23-6) would respond by taking four of the next five points and pulling away to take the first set.

The Mountaineers would take this momentum into the second set, using a pair of 6-2 runs to eventually lead 16-10.

LeTourneau would not go down without a fight, though. The Jackets would rattle off the next ten points in a row thanks to multiple kills from Smith and McCann -- with help from five Schreiner attack errors -- to take the lead.

The YellowJackets seemed to have the second set won, but Schreiner, down 22-19, would sweep the final six points of the set to take a 2-0 set lead.

The third set would be a battle for momentum, as neither team could scrounge together three consecutive points until well into the set. In fact, at one point in the set, 13 consecutive points went back and forth.

LeTourneau would be the first to take advantage, going on a 6-2 run to lead 23-17. The Mountaineers would take the next four to stay in the set, but LeTourneau would avoid the sweep and force a fourth set.

The YellowJackets would lead early multiple times in the fourth, holding a 7-2 and 13-9 lead at points, but the upper-seeded Mountaineers would answer every time.

After a few minutes of see-saw action, LeTourneau led 16-15, but Schreiner would get hot at the right time, earning five of the next six points, giving them a lead they would not relinquish, and winning the match 3-1.

The Mountaineers were led by Giana Hilliard, with 17 kills (.259) and 18 digs.

Although the season came to an end, take note of the historic marks that were set in 2025:
  • LeTourneau's 19 wins were the most in the program's NCAA-era (1998-present).
  • In its inaugural season in the conference, the Jackets qualified for the SCAC Tournament, marking eight straight years of postseason play.
  • Head coach Alison Williams set the program record for career coaching wins -- which now sits at 62 -- against Austin College (Nov. 1).
  • As a freshman, Mullin recorded the first triple double -- 10 kills, 17 assists, 16 digs -- in the program's 25-point era versus Concordia Texas (Oct. 5).
All of this and a number of memorable moments, career-highs, and unforgettable performances made this season one for the history books.
