Women's Basketball Falls on the Road

JACKSON, Miss. -- LeTourneau women's basketball rallied in the second half against the Millsaps Majors, but ultimately fell 73-60 inside The Hangar Dome Friday evening in Jackson.

Kylie Weeks took charge for the YellowJackets (1-2), collecting 14 points and six rebounds, including a near-perfect 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Despite Weeks' performance, the star of the night for LeTourneau was Kaylin Cervantes. The freshman checked in with two minutes left in the game and the YellowJackets down 20, yet proceeded to score 11 points in that small window to bring the energy back to the LeTourneau bench.

Robbi Martinez, Mariana Espinosa, and Sallie Moser contributed seven points each. Moser, doing so off the bench in her first game back from injury. Martinez also added three steals in the contest.

Makenzie Covey led the squad in rebounds with seven, along with a trio of steals.

LeTourneau was slow out of the gate, as the Majors (4-1) would open up with the first six points of the match, but Martinez nailed her first triple of the night with 6:45 remaining to get the YellowJackets on the board.

Espinosa would nail back-to-back jumpers under the two-minute window in the first to keep the Millsaps lead at single digits.

The Majors couldn't be stopped offensively in the second quarter, and each time the YellowJackets would make a field goal, it would be answered by Millsaps by two or three of their own.

Down 33-20 at the half, the Jackets found their groove on the offensive end, scoring 40 of their 60 points in the second half.

LeTourneau would be the ones answering in the third, as a pair of late buckets from both Weeks and Taylor Brown would even get the lead down to single digits with 1:31 remaining in the third.

Neither team could be stopped in the fourth quarter, as the squads combined for 46 points. Unfortunately, a 12-2 opening run through the first 3:28 went in favor of the Majors, putting the game out of reach for LeTourneau.

Elyse Warren was a force for the Majors all night, collecting 24 points and 14 rebounds.
