HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball fell at Sam Houston State, 95-59, in an exhibition game in Huntsville on Monday evening.
Jackson Mayes led the way in scoring with 17 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the line, all in just 18 minutes. 
Teigan Edwards also hit double figures with 12 points, while leading the team in rebounds (6) and assists (4). 
The YellowJackets hung in with the Bearkats for the entirety of the first half. In the early portion, 
David Martinez and 
Cooper Smith scored the first two baskets of the season in the first 2:23, and then Martinez added a three with 15:58 to go in the half to cut it back to one.
After a Sam Houston run, 
Branson Lynn, Mayes, and Edwards got LeTourneau back into it with a 7-0 run to make it 17-14 Bearkats with 11:18 to go.
Mayes would add another six point run with 7:31 to go to cut the deficit back to four, and 
Jak Kinder would add his first collegiate field goal with a triple later in the half, but Sam Houston found a way to keep the lead at 10 going into halftime.
The YellowJackets would be outscored 55-29 in the second half as the Bearkats pulled away, but 
Alex Ferrell would score his first points since returning from an injury that sidelined him for all of last season, hitting four free throws late in the game.
Jacobe Coleman led Sam Houston in scoring with 17, while Kashie Natt led in rebounds with 11.
